SUV Rollovers

Sport utility vehicles are far more likely to be involved in fatal rollover accidents than any other type of motor vehicle on the road today. Rollover accidents constitute only 2.4% of all crashes but cause 33% of all injury costs amounting to roughly $40 billion annually. A few of the models that are the most likely to roll over during normal emergency handling maneuvers are: 1990-1994 Toyota 4Runner, 1990-2001 Ford Explorer, Ford Bronco (all model years); 1991-1997 Isuzu Rodeo, 1984-2001 Chevrolet Blazer/GMC Jimmy. If you have been injured in one of these vehicles in a rollover accident, you may want to contact us.

Another problem area with SUV rollovers involves a new technology designed to prevent rollovers known as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) or similar names. All of the major manufacturers now offer some version of ESC, but not necessarily on all models. It is the position of many industry experts that all SUVs manufactured in 2003 or later should have ESC as standard equipment and that any such vehicle that was not so equipped which was involved in an on-road rollover accident with injuries may be a defective product. Common injuries associates with rollover are brain injuries and head trauma due to roof collapse.  Spinal cord, neck and other major back injuries are also prevalent in rollover accidents.  If you were severely injured in such an accident, contact us to learn more about your rights at no charge.
