These trucks were equipped with fuel tanks that are positioned outside the frame rails (called "side saddle" tanks). In that unprotected position, the tanks can rupture in many different types of accidents and a fuel fed fire can occur. GM has paid out over $495 million dollars in 297 different settlements in C/K fuel fed fire cases. The vehicles have never been recalled and many are still on the road today.
