Johnson & Johnson Recalls Hip Implants

The ASR Acetabular System, manufactured by DePuy, a division of Johnson and Johnson, has been recalled due to the high failure rate in patients. 13% of people implanted with the device have had to have them surgically removed and replaced with something else within 5 years of receiving the device.

DePuy had already stopped selling the device, however many doctors believe this decision should've come much sooner as there had been a greater number of adverse events reported from this device than comparable hip implants. The failure rate of hip implant devices within 5 years of implantation is expected to be no more than 5%.

If you have a hip implant that has been recalled or needed revision soon after it was implanted, contact an experienced lawyer at Rheingold, Giuffra, Ruffo & Plotkin LLP for a free consultation.
