Toyota may be sanctioned due to inspection of the crash vehicle in the first national sudden acceleration court case. Toyota received a tentative sanction from Judge Selna of the Central District of California federal court because it inspected the vehicle of a fatal car crash without contacting the victims' lawyer. The judge stated that it "cast a cloud of suspicion" over Toyota even though there was no evidence of impropriety.
Toyota currently faces nearly 200 lawsuits across the country. CNN reported in March that Toyota withheld a key document from federal investigators showing the it was aware of the sudden acceleration problem before it went to market.
