Mirapex Under Ongoing Safety Review

By Thamanna Hussain

The U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reviewing Mirapex (a drug which is generally used to treat Parkinson's disease as well as restless legs syndrome) for a possible association with heart failure.

In the FDA's safety alert, healthcare professionals were notified about this possible risk with Mirapex. As stated by WebMd after evaluating two population studies, the results suggested a higher risk of new cases of heart failure among individuals who use this medicine.

However, the results of the recent studies and safety data on Mirapex need further review in order to determine whether Mirapex increases the risk of heart failure. The alert also stated that the public would be updated once more information was available.
