NBC news in New York City has reported the Bronx indictment of a nursing home worker alleged to have sexually abused an Alzheimer's patient. This is a story we will be following as it is unknown whether there are other victims of this staff member, or whether a pattern of this was known to be occurring. The Hudson Pointe facility in the Riverdale area of the Bronx says this is a lone instance, and they are fully cooperating with authorities. NBC reports that another staff member opened a closet door and observed what appeared to be a sexual assault.
We commend the quick and open investigation by the facility. As lawyers litigating and settling sexual assault cases, witness reports and official investigations are very important. We use notarized statements from witness as these are often compelling evidence in making insurance carriers settle claims. Witness testimony is sometimes the only evidence if the victim is unable to communicate due to dementia or other forms of serious disability.
