New Cancer Inquiries: More Information on the Zantac Recall

Our firm is being contacted by prisoners and inmates who have used Zantac and ranitidine and have been diagnosed with cancer. Cancer rates in incarcerated populations are higher compared with the general population, with mortality rates from digestive and blood cancers are reported to be 1.6 times higher among incarcerated men and 1.4 times among incarcerated women than in the general population. The Federal Bureau of Prisons, California, Texas, New York, and other states supply prescription and over-the-counter Zantac/ranitidine. We have heard that for inmates, Zantac was the only drug used for erosive esophagitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease-GERD, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Our firm is receiving an abundance of Zantac inquiries. Among these inquiries, we have seen a connection between Zantac and cancers. The most frequent diseases that we have received questions about have been

  • colon cancer
  • prostate cancer
  • bladder cancer.
