Health officials confirmed another death that was caused by the deadly steroid injections. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention have stated the meningitis outbreak has reached over 180 people in 12 states. New Jersey health official have linked four more cases to the multi-state outbreak, bringing the total to eight cases.

One Minnesota woman has already filed a lawsuit in Minnesota federal court. She received an injection from the contaminated batch of steroids from the Massachusetts-based New England Compounding Center. The CDC estimate that over 14,000 people may have received the injections.

As we have mentioned before, our firm handled similar litigation in 1995 for infectious bacteria in albuterol sold by Copley Pharmaceutical. Our litigation team uncovered documents proving poorly designed processing equipment that allowed bacterial growth. Ultimately, it was also determined that some of the processing data was withheld from the FDA. Over 100,000 vials were recalled, but only after there were 14 deaths and over 100 injured. Oddly, Copley was also a New England company.
