Compassionate counsel made a huge difference in my life and the life of my family.
When I contacted Attorney Ed Ruffo, I had already suffered the devastating loss of a perfectly healthy kidney. Questions swirled in my head. Why did this happen to me? Did the doctor make a mistake or was it just bad luck? I didn’t know where to turn or what to do.
When I met with Ed, he put me at ease and explained to me that sometimes when surgeons make mistakes, they use anything they can to shield themselves from blame. I was filled with so many emotions. I was angry, hurt, and confused. Ed explained to me that he would review my medical records to see if he would be able to help me.
After he reviewed the records, Ed let me know that he suspected sub-standard care and that the doctors had made a serious error. I felt relieved and at the same time angry. I had just lost a kidney for no good reason other than human error.
In my case a pathology specimen of tissue taken during a surgery showed that my ureter had become involved in a malignant spreading process. That prompted the surgeons to remove the ureter and the entire kidney on the side affected. After re-analysis of the pathology , it turned out the ureter tissue was benign and that my ureter and kidney had been unnecessarily removed.
When I went home, I discussed the devastating news with my husband. We decided to have Ed file a lawsuit against the hospital. Thanks to Ed’s hard work, persistence, and knowledge of the medical profession, we were awarded a large settlement. While nothing can replace the unnecessary loss of a healthy organ, Ed’s compassionate counsel made a huge difference in my life and the life of my family. In those dark days after losing my kidney, Ed was my shining light. I remain tremendously grateful to him and his dedicated firm.
