Better Safety Plans for City Schools: Avonte Oquendo’s Family Files Notice Claim Against City

Our New York attorneys skillfully handle faulty security claims, and we find the article surrounding the disappearance of autistic teen Avonte Oquendo of particular interest. Since October 4th, Avonte is still missing from his Long Island City school. Do you think that city schools should have more training programs for safety agents or staff members and better security notification systems?

Recently in the New York Daily News, the Department of Education had announced Thursday that they will reconstruct the way many special needs kids are being supervised at school. They plan on expanding new programs for multiple schools to contain two-way radio and video systems as well as training for the educating staff and safety agents. There will also be a plan to install public address and panic-button notification systems. It is stated by school Chancellor, Dennis Walcott that the agency will investigate and review the case of Avonte. On October 9th, Avonte’s family filed a $25 million notice claim against the city.

Hundreds of volunteers and police have made search efforts, looking for the teen and posting flyers all over the city. There is a reward for his safe return and we encourage for anyone with information to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS, text 274637 (CRIMES) and then enter TIP577, or visit the Crime Stoppers website.
