JPMorgan Sexual Assault Lawsuit: Lorna Hajdini Case & Workplace Accountability

By Yusra Javed

Written by Yusra Javed

Last month, JPMorgan Chase investment banker Lorna Hajdini was accused in a civil lawsuit of sexually assaulting her former colleague, Chirayu Rana. According to the complaint, Hajdini allegedly used her seniority in the company to coerce him into non-consensual sexual conduct over the course of several months. Hajdini has denied the allegations and disputes the claims regarding her role and relationship to the plaintiff. The case has drawn attention to broader issues of workplace accountability at major financial institutions like JPMorgan Chase.1

Case Status

The lawsuit was filed on April 27, 2026, in the New York Supreme Court, naming Lorna Hajdini and JPMorgan Chase as defendants. The complaint includes allegations of sexual misconduct and related workplace claims. Hajdini has filed a countersuit against Rana for defamation while denying all of Rana’s allegations.2 While there have been attempts by JPMorgan to resolve the legal dispute before the lawsuit, as the bank offered $1 million to settle the allegations, Rana rejected it.3 The case remains ongoing and has not yet been resolved in court.

Legal Issues Raised

The lawsuit emphasized several issues that go beyond the facts of the case and touch on broader questions of employer responsibility, workplace safety, and how organizations respond to internal reports.

Employer liability

Whether JPMorgan can be held legally responsible for alleged misconduct by an employee, and whether it took reasonable steps to prevent or address the reported behavior.

Gender dynamics in misconduct allegations

The case is notable because the accused is a female executive, which shows that sexual assault and harassment laws apply equally regardless of gender and are evaluated based on conduct rather than stereotypes.

Workplace reporting and response failures

The case also shows how concerns were raised in similar lawsuits about whether internal HR or compliance systems properly investigate complaints or fail to act promptly.

Related Workplace Workplace Misconduct Cases

Workplace sexual misconduct litigation against large corporations has become increasingly common, particularly in high-level corporate and financial industry settings. Although the facts of each case are different and unique to its circumstances, courts have repeatedly addressed claims involving alleged failures to properly investigate complaints and prevent harassment.

In 2023, thousands of female staff members who worked at Goldman Sachs alleged that the bank was offering them lower pay and little opportunity to advance. The case was resolved with a settlement of $215 million.4 Similarly, in 2021, a trading associate at Morgan Stanley alleged that he received inappropriate comments about his sexual orientation and other sexual advances during his time at the company. Morgan Stanley ultimately settled the harassment lawsuit.5

What You Should Know About Workplace Sexual Misconduct Claims

Regardless of the outcome of the JPMorgan Chase litigation, cases of this nature highlight the importance of effective internal reporting systems, thorough and timely investigations, and clear employer policies and training that address allegations of harassment or assault.
