Roundup is a widely used, non-selective, systemic herbicide used to control weeds and grasses in agriculture, landscaping, and home gardens. Originally produced by Monsanto and now owned by Bayer, its primary active ingredient is glyphosate, which works by inhibiting a specific plant enzyme. It is used broadly in farming, forestry, for lawn and garden maintenance, and in aquatic environments. Glyphosate has faced significant controversy due to studies linking it to potential cancer risks and environmental harm, leading to bans or restrictions in some areas.
Cancers linked to Roundup include:
B-cell lymphomas, such as:
T-cell lymphomas, such as:

2020 Global Roundup Settlement (Bulk Claims)
In June 2020, Bayer agreed to a sweeping global settlement resolving more than 100,000 Roundup lawsuits for approximately $8.8 to $9.6 billion, with an additional $1.5 billion reserved for future claims. This agreement was designed to resolve the vast majority of pending cases nationwide at that time.
Approximately $11 Billion in Total Settlements (Ongoing)
By 2025, Bayer has reportedly paid approximately $11 billion to resolve roughly 100,000 Roundup cancer claims nationwide as litigation continues in state and federal courts.
(Many verdicts were later reduced on appeal or resolved through post-verdict settlements.)
Barnes v. Monsanto Co. (Georgia, 2025) – A jury returned a $2.065 billion verdict ($65 million compensatory damages and $2 billion punitive damages) for a plaintiff alleging Roundup caused non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Mike Dennis v. Monsanto (California, 2025) – A $28 million verdict was upheld on appeal after being reduced from a higher original jury award.
Missouri Three-Plaintiff Trial (2025) – A $611 million verdict for three plaintiffs with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma was upheld after post-trial reductions.
Ernest Caranci v. Monsanto (Pennsylvania, 2025) – A $177 million verdict, with Bayer’s appeal denied.
Philadelphia Roundup Verdicts (2024 and earlier) – Philadelphia juries have issued multiple multimillion-dollar verdicts, including:
Approximately $400 million (reduced from an original $2.25 billion award) for a Pennsylvania plaintiff
$78 million awarded to William Melissen in a 2024 case
Earlier Landmark Cases – Prior to 2023, juries returned historic verdicts such as Pilliod v. Monsanto, where a California couple was awarded more than $2 billion combined before post-trial reductions.
Consumer and Regulatory Settlement
In 2023, Bayer agreed to pay $6.9 million to New York State to resolve claims that the company made misleading representations regarding the safety of Roundup, a regulatory settlement separate from personal injury litigation.
There is no single factor that determines whether a Roundup claim qualifies for a lawsuit. Successful cases are evaluated based on a combination of exposure history, medical evidence, and legal considerations. During a confidential consultation, we review key factors that may affect eligibility, including:
When and how you were exposed to Roundup
The duration and frequency of exposure
The type of cancer diagnosed and the timing of diagnosis relative to Roundup use
The state where the exposure occurred, which may impact the statute of limitations and filing deadlines
Past and future medical treatment related to the diagnosis
Lost income or reduced earning capacity
The impact of the illness on you and your family
