Massachusetts Doctor Accused of Sexually Abusing at Least 24 Minors

By Thomas P. Giuffra

Law enforcement authorities in the Bay State suspect that Dr. Richard Kauff sexually abused many more under age girls than the 24 who have come forward thus far. Kauff, who agreed to stop practicing medicine while the criminal investigation is ongoing, had been in practice for more than 40 years. He is accused of inserting his fingers into the children’s vagina during routine pediatric examinations.

The allegations grew out of a question posed by a woman who asked in a social media setting if it was routine for a doctor to insert his fingers in her vagina during an exam. The overwhelming response was negative. However, a few other women had had the same experience and it turned out that Dr. Kauff was their physician.

Kauff, 68, who is charged with 12 felony counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and four felony counts of rape of a child with force, was released on $50,000 bail.

Prosecutors say Kauff could spend the rest of his life in prison if he is convicted of the alleged crimes, which date from November 1991 to August 2004.
