Sold by Allergan, Viberzi (eluxadoline) is an irritable bowel syndrome medication for adults where the primary symptom is diarrhea. The FDA warned in March 2017 that this drug should not be used in patients who do not have a gallbladder due to reported cases of pancreatitis, an acute disease that leads to hospitalization and, in some cases, death. However, it should be noted that there were cases of pancreatitis in patients who still had their gallbladder!
Pancreatitis is a life-threatening inflammation of the pancreas, an organ essential in producing digestive enzymes and hormones. Shockingly, Allergan’s so-called blockbuster drug was responsible for a sharp spike in pancreatitis injuries reported to the FDA, 120 reports of pancreatitis or death between May 2015 and February 2017.
FDA’s Listing of Pancreatitis Symptoms

The FDA now states that a patient Stop taking Viberzi right away and get emergency medical care if you develop new or worsening (with or without nausea and vomiting)
