$9 Million Verdict in Car Accident Case Tried by Tom Giuffra

By Rheingold Giuffra Ruffo Plotkin & Hellman LLP

The jury came back with a $9 million dollar verdict in a motor vehicle accident case tried by Tom Giuffra. Our client was a 22 year old college student who was injured when the vehicle that she was travelling in was hit by another car making a left hand turn. As a result of the impact, the car’s airbag deployed and caused our client’s wrist to strike her head at approximately 200 miles per hour. Due to the impact, our client sustained a brain injury which caused her to develop post-traumatic seizures, a severe obsessive compulsive disorder and a fractured wrist.

In a hotly contested trial, the defendants contended that our client was at fault for the accident and that the only injury sustained was a wrist fracture. We presented testimony from some of the leading experts in United States on seizure disorders and o.c.d. who established that our client sustained significant injuries and will require medical attention for the remainder of her life.

After a month long trial in which ten experts testified, a Manhattan jury completely rejected the arguments raised by the defense and awarded our client $9,000,000.00 to compensate her for pain and suffering, medical needs and loss of income caused by the defendant’s negligence.
