Merck Loses Fosamax Case: 8 Million in Compensatory Damages

In the second bellweather trial a jury awarded 8 million dollars in compensatory damages to Shirley Boles for damages she incurred as a result of taking the osteoporosis drug Fosamax. Ms. Boles sued Merck because she developed osteonecrosis of the jaw after taking Fosamax.
Merck will appeal the verdict but this is a good sign for the 1417 plaintiffs that have filed suits against Merck in federal and state courts for similiar problems.
