Requip, Others Linked to Impulse Control Disorders

A 2010 study of dopamine-replacement therapies and their link to impulse control disorders (ICD) has shown that dopamine agonist therapies such as Requip (Ropinirole) in the treatment of Parkinson's Disease is associated with a 2 to 3.5 fold increase in odds of having an ICD.

Out of the 3090 patients studied 13.6% were identified as having an ICD (5% gambling addiction, 3.5% compulsive sexual behavior, 5.7% compulsive buying, 4.3% binge-eating disorder). 3.9% of those studied had 2 or more of these disorders.
