FDA to Add New Warnings on PPI's

The FDA has announced that it will require new warnings on all prescription and over the counter Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI) as a result of multiple studies concluding that these types of drugs can lead to an increased risk of bone fracture in your hip, wrist, and spine. The drugs effected by the new warnings included Nexium, Prevacid, Zegerid, Protonix, Achiphex, and Dexilant as well as any other PPI's.

Our attorneys have been investigating the link between PPI's and bone fracture risk for quite some time. How stringent the new warnings will be is still unclear, but hopefully it will give doctors pause before prescribing these drugs to people already susceptible to an increased fracture risk. It is recommended that doctors weigh the risks and benefits to patients of prescribing these drugs.
