Ford Recalls 421,000 Escapes Over Unintended Acceleration Problem
Ford, following in the footsteps of Toyota, has its own unintended acceleration problem. Nearly half a million SUVs, Ford Escapes and Mavericks have been recalled for what is being called a "sticky pedal" problem. Specifically, an alleged defect in the cruise control cable has been found to cause the cars to speed out control. Thus far, thirteen crashes and one death have been attributed to this defect.
The recall comes just one week after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an inquiry into the problem. This is not quite the same alleged defect that was the reason for the Toyota recalls in the past, but nonetheless, it is a similar and dangerous problem.
